A Tennessee man is accused of killing his wife while the newlywed couple vacationed in Fiji
a Tennessee Pharmacist Found Dead At a luxury resort in Fiji, leading to the arrest of her new husband in connection with the alleged murder, officials said Wednesday.
Fiji’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said in a statement that Bradley Dawson, 39, killed Christine, 38, at a resort on Yasawa Island on July 9.
It was not immediately clear how she died.
The Memphis couple was staying at Turtle Island Resort, a private getaway in the Yasawa Islands that hosts 14 couples at a time.
“We have fully cooperated with the police who conducted a thorough investigation and have now left the island,” the resort said in a statement, adding that it could not provide additional information on Chen’s death.
“We are deeply saddened by this event and send our deepest condolences to Ms. Chen’s family and friends,” the resort said.
The attorney general’s office said in a statement that Dawson was charged with one count of murder and made his first appearance in court on July 13. His next appearance is scheduled for July 27 before the Lautoka High Court.
Dawson’s lawyer in Fiji did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but he For the Tennessee TV station, Fox 13 MemphisThat his client insisted on his innocence.
Dawson worked as an IT specialist for Youth Villages, “a private non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with emotional and behavioral problems and their families live successfully,” according to the organization based in Memphis, Tennessee.
It has been suspended pending further information. “Ms. Chen was his wife and our condolences are with her family,” Connie Mills, direct assistant communications at Youth Villages, said in a statement.
Chen was a pastry chef before returning to school to become a pharmacist. Her LinkedIn profile showed that she has worked in this capacity at a Kroger supermarket in Memphis for the past three and a half years.
Catherine Benson, owner and main event planner at Bella Baxter Special Events, confirmed that her company worked on Chen and Dawson’s wedding in February.
“Out of respect for the family’s privacy during this time and because of client confidentiality, we are not at liberty to share photos or films or talk about details of their wedding day or planning period,” Benson said.
“What we can say is that Kristi Chen was an amazing person and her light in the world will be missed. We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and our hearts and thoughts are with the families during this time.”
