I have a problem with the budget
As we discussed earlier, my financial life is all over the place. It’s very convenient to be able to see a single number that represents everything I own (my net worth), or to be able to sort things by bank, credit, investments, and retirement.
- Subscription Monitoring: I’m fond of free trials, but even though I usually mention the end of a free trial on my calendar so I can cancel it if I can’t see myself using it regularly, some subscriptions fall through the loopholes. This app actually helped me realize that I was paying twice for one subscription – one through my old random email address and one through my new subscription. (Excuse me).
- Actual representation of your money: Most bank accounts and budgeting apps show you your balance as of this moment, but they don’t take into account what you already owe on credit cards and other loans. Once I synced my credit card accounts to Simplifi, the bank numbers and net worth numbers went down to reflect what I would get after, after I paid them – which is a bit frustrating at the moment, but at the end of the day I’d rather know my actual balance so I can plan accordingly.
- Web and phone access: I’ve used a couple of other budget apps in the past, and for some reason none of them had a platform that I could access from the browser. Since I’m always on my computer, and only work on my phone when I have to, this was a deal breaker for me. I love it with Simplifi, I can log in from my phone And the My PC, with access to all features from both.
The thing I didn’t like:
While I absolutely believe this app will save me time and effort in the future, it did take a while to set it up. When I was syncing accounts for the first time, my primary checking account (that’s where all my money comes in and goes out) wasn’t connected. I finally called Quicken to ask about the error code and was told it was an app-level bug that should be fixed in a few days – an obvious annoyance, but on the plus side, I was able to reach a human representative right away, which I appreciate.
I am still unable to sync my cryptocurrency account and mortgage provider. The former is negligible, but the latter is a bit disappointing because I like to see how the equity in my home affects my net worth. If this isn’t corrected in a few days, I’ll call Quicken again.
All in all, Simplifi by Quicken is a great all-in-one budgeting app that is definitely worth the annual $4 per month price. If you are able to invest the time setting it up, this is an easy-to-use and comprehensive way to not only keep track of all your current spending but to plan for a safer future.
