Santa Cruz province is the most affected, with a total of 712 cases, followed by Beni 213, Tarija 37, La Paz 30, Pando 9, Chuquisaca 7 and Cochabamba 2.

In fact, last Thursday Santa Cruz County health authorities declared the red alert for a dengue fever epidemic that is currently affecting at least 17 municipalities.

Under the red alert, epidemiological surveillance will be intensified and sanitary and laboratory services will be strengthened, said the Director of Epidemiology of the City of Sedes Santa Cruz, Carlos Hurtado.

The official added that the breeding sites of mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever will be fumigated and destroyed. Hurtado also noted the importance of timely laboratory diagnosis and appropriate treatment in health services.
