Brazilian Ministry of Health He declared a public health emergency of national importance in light of the need to combat the lack of health care for the population living in Yanomami territory. The decree was published on Friday.


In addition to declaring a state of emergency, the Ministry also established the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (COE – Yanomami) as the national mechanism for coordinated management of emergency response at the national level. The management of the Center of Excellence will be under the responsibility of the Secretariat for Indigenous Health (SESAI), taking into account the type of emergency.

Coe is responsible for coordinating measures that will be used during an emergency, including mobilizing resources to re-establish health services and communicating with SUS state and municipal managers.
