Cambodia reports H5N1 avian influenza death of 11-year-old in Prey Veng province, MOH reports 12 more people infected

The Cambodian Ministry of Health reports that an 11-year-old male in Roleang Village, Romlech Municipality, Sithor Kandal District, Prey Veng Province has died after contracting H5N1 avian influenza, the first case in Cambodia in nine years (March 14, 2014).
The girls started showing symptoms on February 16 (fever, cough and sore throat), and they received treatment in the village for three days without improvement before they were transferred to the Children’s National Hospital in Phnom Penh on February 21. And she died the next day.
All 25 chickens and ducks in the girl’s house died, said M Rachna, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. “Her house had twenty-two chickens and three ducks…but no one ate them; they were all burnt.”
