The Ministry of Health, through the Directorate for Regulation of Products of Health Importance, alerts the general public about the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in certain batches of fresh cheese of various national brands, as detailed below:

0103223091 piece of fresh grated semi-hard cheese, brand TIQUESO, sanitary registration A-4606-11.

Quantity: 1031 grated semi-hard cheese, QUESOS DEL NORTE LAS CUATRO A brand, A-CR-21-03200

293 pcs of semi-hard cheese, brand LAS DELICIAS DE MI TIERRA, without health registration.

Quantity: 311 Lactose-Free Torrealba Cheese, LITE HOUSE brand, Health Registration A-CR-17-09885.

According to the results of the microbiological analyzes of the National Reference Center for Microbiological Food Safety of the Costa Rican Institute of Research and Teaching in Nutrition and Health (CRIMA-INCIENSA), the above product groups, of the brands TIQUESO and QUESOS DEL NORTE presented LAS CUATRO A, LAS DELICIAS DE MI TIERRA and LITE HOUSE isolates are positive for Listeria monocytogenes, and therefore do not comply with the criteria specified in Central American Technical Regulations for Microbiological Standards for Food Safety RTCA 67.04.50:17, for subgroup 1.9.

The contamination of the products was determined through sampling carried out in supermarkets in the country, as part of the food control carried out by the Ministry of Health, in order to verify compliance with the Central American Technical Regulation of the current Microbiological Standards for Food Safety.

It should be noted that work is already underway to withdraw contaminated parts from the market in coordination with sampling points and with SENASA at the manufacturer level.
