General Motors on Thursday unveiled the all-electric GMC Sierra Denali pickup truck, the latest model in the company’s march toward achieving a global annual sales target of 1 million electric vehicles by 2025.
The GMC Sierra Denali EV isn’t the first electric truck or SUV on GM’s new Ultium platform. It’s actually the brand The third battery-powered electric truckafter the pickup and SUV versions of the GMC Hummer.
But given that the Sierra internal combustion version is GMC’s best-selling model, that could be a standout for the brand.
While the GMC Sierra EV shares the name and some semblance of its ICE counterpart, this isn’t just a retrofit.
“It’s not like we really take the truck and put a battery in it,” Tom Namovich, GMC Sierra Product Manager, told TechCrunch. “HeyOnce again, we’re taking Ultium technology, the combined cab and trunk chassis much like a Hummer pickup and continuing that with additional purposeful technology in the car.”
The full-size pickup truck is set to rival the Ford F-150 Lightning. GMC will launch the model with a high-end Denali 1 Edition, which will arrive in early 2024 with a starting price of $107,000. The Sierra Denali will be available in two trims — the AT4 and Elevation — for 2025. GMC said it will announce other versions of the pickup closer to production starting at around $50,000. The F-150 Lightning, launched in April, starts at $47,000 and has a price tag of nearly $100,000 per aircraft. Extended Platinum Edition.
The Sierra Denali Edition 1 EV delivers an estimated 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque when in Max Power mode.
It could travel from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds relatively fast and would have an estimated range of 400 miles. It will also be able to tow up to 9,500 pounds; It is unclear what the range will be when towing with capacitance.
The Sierra EV will also come with an onboard power plant of up to 10.2 kilowatts of power that turns the truck into a mobile power source for a variety of situations. The company said the pickup truck can run the “basic essentials” of the home for 21 days when configured with a two-way charger and offerings from General Motors Energy. The new Ultium Home line.
All Sierra EV bezels will have an 800V chassis capable of fast charging up to 350 kW. This means that about 100 miles of range can be added to the battery in about 10 minutes when using certain fast chargers.
Just like its Hummer EV cousin, the Sierra EV will have four-wheel steering and “crab walking” capability, Namovich said, adding that the company has also improved the on-demand re-brake feature.
Inside the Denali Edition 1 is a 16.8-inch touchscreen. The infotainment system will be powered by Google’s Android Auto operating system, which comes with all of Google’s built-in services like Assistant.
The Denali version will also be available as standard with GM’s advanced manual driver assistance system called Super Cruise.
