“I’ve seen the possibility of doing a serial killer in a way we’ve never seen before, where we won’t be tempted by him doing this or how much damage he does as a person, but take a step back and see why and how we allow this to continue,” Lindholm said.

“He’s not, in my opinion, Hannibal Lecter. He’s not that brilliant mind. He’s a fairly simple guy who does something fairly simple, but it’s a system that allows it.”

Colin used his position as a nurse for kills his patients By injecting their intravenous bags with lethal doses of medication. He was able to evade detection by moving from one hospital to another in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Both the book and the film suggest that for-profit hospitals covered up Colin to avoid potential liability.

“This case asks us whether it is a good idea that people make money from the health of others,” Lindholm said. “Is it a good idea that hospitals are companies?”

Wilson Kearns began writing her quote from Graeber’s book 10 years ago. She told the AP that she began her research by visiting Lugren at her home.

“I came to Amy’s real home in upstate New York,” Wilson Kearns recalls. “I think I was 23 or 24. I was like, ‘I’ve never done this before.’ It’s really important to me. It is the story of your life. can you help me? “

In addition, Wilson Kearns shadowed the nurses for two weeks at a hospital in Connecticut. “What I’ve found is that the actual health care providers — the doctors, the nurses, the radiologists, the anesthesiologists — are all amazing and heroic,” she said.

“They put their lives into a box so they can help save others. I don’t think any of them get paid enough. I think even 10 times these nurses don’t get paid enough. I’ve learned that the system they are forced to work inside It’s not the best for patient care.”

Chastain was inspired by her portrayal of Loughrin through her conversations with the real-life nurse. In order to realistically depict Loughren’s arrhythmia on screen, Chastain ran to raise her heart rate before filming. She was also wearing an earpiece that had a heartbeat that could speed up while filming a scene.

“She worked at night so her daughters felt she was a housewife. That’s what she kept saying, that her kids saw her when they were up,” Chastain said.

“The idea that this woman would risk her health in order to provide for her children and risk her own comfort by not getting the sleep she needed told me a lot about who she is and what she is capable of.”

Redmayne, who played Colin, watched real-life footage of Colin from his court appearance and 2013 interview on “60 Minutes.” Colin was sentenced to 11 consecutive life sentences in 2006.

“There was something in his body that was really interesting to me,” Redmayne said. “He’s a very consistent guy. But if you really look closely, you’ll see that he’s always calming himself. I don’t know if calming down is the right word, but touching the fabrics.”

“This woman has not been recognized for what she did,” said Wilson Kern. “People don’t think of ordinary women as that kind of hero. They aren’t on screens, they don’t appear in the media, they aren’t in the books enough.

To see the real Amy finally be recognized in a small way for what she did – saving countless lives – I thought: This is not a bad way to spend a decade. I will do it again.”
