Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health has reported 400 confirmed cases of cholera in all eight governorates since the first case was confirmed in early October.

Since the first case was confirmed on October 5, nearly 1,900 suspected and confirmed cases have been reported across the country, including 17 confirmed deaths.

Serotype Vibrio cholerae O1 El-Tor Ogawa was identified as the currently circulating cholera strain, similar to the strain circulating in Syria.

“Cholera is deadly, but it can also be prevented through vaccines and access to safe water and sanitation. It can be easily treated with oral rehydration or timely antibiotics for the most severe cases,” says Dr. Abdel Nasser Abou Bakr, WHO Representative in Lebanon. intensity”.

With regard to cholera vaccines, 13,440 doses of the cholera vaccine provided by Sanofi with the support of France have been received. It is the first batch of the vaccine that is received. Lebanon is waiting to receive the 600,000 vaccines it requested from the International Vaccine Coordination Association of the World Health Organization within ten days.
