Nevada City, California – Victorian ChristmasThe ancient celebration that takes place every year in this colorful California gold rush town evokes memories of the holidays in a bygone era.

During the event, the Nevada City Notable Historic District was closed to motorized traffic and turned back in time. Christmas melodies and costume characters remind visitors of another time and place. There are holiday activities for all ages including live entertainment, Christmas treats and libations, and Father Christmas!

Eid celebration

Holiday revelers fill the streets, sampling the outside fare of hawkers and friendly vendors, and the foods and goods offered by downtown restaurants and specialty stores. Victorian singers, bagpipes, live nativity scene and Santa Claus visits are among the attractions. Savor chestnuts roasted over an open fire and enjoy rambling on foot, brass bands, hay cart rides and much more.

The Nevada City is located 2,500 feet in the wooded foothills of the northern Sierra Nevada. It is located 1 hour (60 miles) northeast of Sacramento, via Interstate 80 and Interstate 49 north. From Marysville and the North Valley, take Highway 20 eastbound From Reno and Tahoe take I-80 westbound and scenic Highway 20 westbound.

Overnight visitors are encouraged to book local accommodations well in advance. Dozens of historic B&Bs and many comfortable hotels and motels are located in Nevada City and the nearby Grass Valley.

Parking and shuttle

Drop your group into town, park, and take the bus from Nevada County Government Center, 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City.

$5 for adults/children 15 years and older. Children under 15 years old – free of charge.
Shuttle hours are 4:30-9:15pm on Wednesdays and 1:00-7:00pm on Sundays (wheelchairs accessible)
Get off at the Veterans Building parking lot. Return flights are free for all.
Small dogs that can be on your lap are allowed.
