New Chevy Bolt EUV has bright future
Performance, design and appeal are just a few of the highlights
ROSEVILLE, Calif. — The folks at Chevrolet have had success with the original Chevrolet Bolt, so why not retrofit it and see if it can replicate that success?
Some observers feel that’s exactly what Chevy is doing with its new electric SUV.
The company watched Bolt sales reach an all-time high last year when it also launched an offshoot of its small electric vehicle, introducing the Bolt EUV.
There are similarities between the two EVs, in the first place, they both provide a spirited ride and have good mileage. But the differences are easy to assess. the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV It is a compact SUV with much more versatility than its older sibling. Despite its more attractive aspects, the EUV nearly matches the price of the original Bolt.
Speaking of price, last year’s version of the Bolt EUV was priced around $33,000. Chevy lowered the price this year by a significant margin, to a budget-friendly $27,900. Introduced in late 2016, the Bolt sedan has a starting price of around $26,000 and hopes to boost sales a year later, with it rising to 38,122.
range and charge
The Bolt EUV can’t match the Bolt’s 259-mile range, but it does get close to 247 miles before a charge is required. Using general DC Level 3 fast charging, the 65-kWh lithium-ion battery can go about 95 miles in 30 minutes. Using a 240V outlet, it can be fully charged in about 10 hours.
Other than price, there isn’t much difference between this year’s EUV and the 2022 edition. The 2023 EUV offers an attractive new package and the sportier Redline Edition. It features a black and red Bolt EUV logo on the rear hatch, red decals on the outside mirror, and 17-inch black-painted aluminum wheels with red accents.
The front-wheel drive EUV’s overall performance came as a surprise, providing more power than we expected. The electric motor generates 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The EUV weighs between 3,680 to 3,715 pounds and has been clocked from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds. It can navigate around the city and provide the acceleration needed in highway driving.
The Bolt EUV features responsive steering, nimble handling and fun to drive. We liked the regenerative braking when set in the low position, which gives it a one-pedal drive. This gives the driver the ability to accelerate and slow down completely without using the brake pedal. High-speed driving is an option with the Premier. It enables hands-free driving on divided, aligned highways, a first for Chevrolet.
Standard driver safety features include forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic forward emergency braking, automatic high beam headlights, and a Teen Driver System.
