One soldier is dead and 9 others injured in a lightning strike at a Georgia Army base
One soldier was killed and nine others were injured in a lightning strike on Wednesday at an Army facility in Georgia, a Fort Gordon spokesman said.
The lightning strike occurred during a field training around 11 a.m. in Fort Gordon, near Augusta, spokeswoman Ann Bowman said.
The deceased soldier’s identity has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.
The case of the injured was not available Wednesday evening.
Bowman said that at about 11:10 a.m., field control reported a lightning strike in one of their exercises, and the fort’s emergency services department responded.
