Philippines: Cholera cases top 4,000, Typhoid cases up 150%

Philippine health officials reported 4,102 cumulative cholera cases this year through October 15, an increase of 254 percent compared to the same period in 2021 (1,159).
In addition, the number of deaths due to cholera this year increased by 311% – 9 in 2021 compared to 37 in 2022 so far.
The Eastern Visayas has reported the most cases this year with a total of 2,763.

Typhoid fever cases in the Philippines have also increased significantly in 2022 so far. As of October 15, health officials have reported 12,124 cumulative cases, a 150 percent increase from the 4,844 cases reported in the same period in 2021.
Deaths from typhoid fever jumped from 19 last year to 56 in 2022 so far.
The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) reported the most cases with 2,519, followed by Northern Mindanao (1586) and Central Visayas (1317).
