Sierra College recognizes Veterans Day with ceremony
Ceremony, walk a mile in their shoes, public safety jobs fair
Rocklin, CA – Thursday morning, November 10, Sierra Veterans Success Center VSC hosted students, staff, faculty, and community members in a celebration honoring American veterans for their patriotism, patriotism, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the greater good. The day started with presentations in front of Sierra College The Library (LRC) 8:30 a.m.
Speakers included Damian Helms of the Sierra College of Veterans’ Success Center, Sierra College Superintendent/President Willie Duncan, Rocklin Mayor Bill Haldaneand Placer County Sheriff Wayne Wu.
Sheriff Wu admitted that approximately 25% of veterans go on to law enforcement or become first responders after serving in their country.
To continue honoring and focusing on the mental health of our veterans, participants joined in “Walk a Mile in Their Boots” to honor 17 veterans who take their own lives every day and are affected by mental health. Walkers were encouraged to create and upload a poster to support our veterans as they walk.
After the ceremony, a public safety career fair was held with the designation of representatives from law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and EMT/EMS agencies.
