“Stranger Things” Actor Doesn’t Believe His Character Is Dead

The Duffer Brothers are known to be somewhat ruthless regarding character deaths in Weird things. First Barb, then Joyce BF Bob Newby, Alexey, Billy Hargrove, Chrissy Cunningham, Fred Benson, Patrick McKinney, Dr. Brenner, and Eddie Monson (💔). It’s a long list – but one actor isn’t completely convinced he’s gone forever.

Dr. Martin Brenner, aka Papa, has played an integral role in the science fiction series since the first season. Although it wasn’t present in every part, it has long been the all-encompassing antagonist, an integrated faction of the Eleven story and the origin of the Upside Down. In the eighth episode of Stranger Things 4He was shot by the military after they overran the secret laboratory where he and Dr. Owens were building the Nina Project.

Dr. Brenner is presumed dead, but Matthew Modine – who portrayed the evil genius – thinks there’s a chance his character will return to redemption in Season 5. In an interview with Eagleexplains why he doesn’t want to say he’s dead.

“Three things are strange to me: How did he survive the Demogorgon? How did one survive?” he said. And when Eleven tried to use her power against Dr. Brenner after he blasted three guards in the air, he thwarted her and said, ‘You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you? “You couldn’t get him to work on it. Is there something about Brenner more than meets the eye?”

When the interviewer asked whether or not Brenner had supernatural powers, as did Eleven and the other children at Hawkins Lab, Modine replied, “Yes. I don’t want to believe it’s over, because I love the Duffers.”

His feelings align with a previous interview with men’s health. When asked to confirm whether or not his character is dead, he said, “I wish I had an answer for that. The Dover brothers asked that question and they said, ‘Brener is no longer with us.’ Does that mean he’s dead? I don’t know.”

“The great thing about Brenner is not only that he survived the Demogorgon, but he also survived the 001 attack,” he added. “He and Eleven were the only ones left alive after that attack. It wasn’t just one monster alive; it survived again.”

If Brenner returns to Hawkins, Modine believes he will have to contend with the cruelty he has imposed on eleven and other children in the lab for years. He had to really admit his wicked ways and ask Elle, and the only known child, Kali, for forgiveness.

“…the horror of what Brenner did was to accept and understand his guilt in the death of all these children for what one of them did,” said Modine. Eagle. “So if Eleven and Kali, or just Eleven, forgives him and kicks him out, he will spend the remaining days of his life realizing that he has forgiven him but that he has to take responsibility for what he did.”

It remains to be seen what happens to Brenner, so we just have to wait in anticipation for Season 5 of Weird things Drops on Netflix. But, ahem, Duffer Brothers, if you’re reading this – as we roll out the idea of characters returning from the dead… how about Eddie Monson?
