Taiwan reports first local cholera case of the year

The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently reported the first locally confirmed case of cholera in 2022.r
The patient is a female in her forties who had diarrhea on 18 October, and it persisted until 22 October. She has other symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, dissolved stools and pain in the upper abdomen, she went to the doctor and was taken to the hospital.
Laboratory analysis showed she had toxic Vibrio cholerae (serotype O1-Ogawa) on 2 November. Her symptoms improved after treatment and she was discharged from the hospital.
The case has no recent travel history. She had recently eaten raw shrimp and oysters.
According to the statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the annual number of local cases from 2018 to 2021 was 7, 0, 1, and 0, respectively; In the five years from 2018 to 2022, there were no imported cases.
