Vietnamese health authorities have recorded more than 10,000 cases of dengue fever across the country in the past week, including two additional deaths.
Since the beginning of 2022, Vietnam has reported 292,439 cumulative cases of dengue fever and 112 deaths.
Compared with the same period in 2021 (56,240 cases / 21 deaths), the number of dengue cases increased 4.8 times, and the number of deaths increased by 91 cases.
In Hanoi, from the beginning of the year until November 4, the whole city recorded 10,716 cases, 12 deaths; The number of cases increased 3.5 times over the same period in 2021.
The number of cases has increased sharply in recent weeks. At the beginning of September 2022, the number of cases was in the range of 500-700 cases / week, and by the end of October 2022, 1200-1400 cases / week were recorded.
According to the statistics of the Hanoi Center for Disease Control, the number of dengue cases in 2022 has exceeded the epidemic warning threshold, and the epidemiological situation is complicated.
In the face of the increasing development of the dengue epidemic, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi City signed and issued a directive on strengthening dengue prevention and control measures in the region.
The guidance stresses the need to be proactive, radical and focus on dealing with outbreaks so that they do not spread and prolong; Preventing and controlling dengue effectively and effectively, in fact, prevents and reverses the epidemic of dengue fever in the city, reducing the number of cases and patient deaths.
To counteract the complex development of the dengue epidemic, the Director of the Department of Health in Hanoi recommended the following:
- Cover all water containers to prevent mosquitoes from entering and laying eggs.
- Sleep under mosquito nets, and wear long clothes to prevent mosquito bites even during the day.
- Effective coordination with the health sector in chemical spraying for the prevention and control of epidemics.
