West Virginia man, charged with beating sister who woke up from 2-year coma, dies


A West Virginia man was charged last week with brutally beating his sister I woke up from a two-year coma Officials said her assailant was named as Matt.

Daniel Palmer, 55, was booked into Charleston’s South Central Regional Jail on July 15, charged with attempted murder and malicious injury in the June 2020 attack on his sister. Wanda Palmer.

The West Virginia Department of Homeland Security told NBC News in a statement that Palmer was “uncooperative during his detention and during prison custody procedures.”

On Wednesday, he was transferred to the Charleston-area Medical Center General Hospital after an evaluation by prison medical staff, officials said.

The statement said he was pronounced dead on Thursday.

No other details were provided about his death.

Wanda Palmer was so badly beaten in her trailer in Cottageville, West Virginia, on June 10, 2020. She was discovered so battered and covered in blood that officers assumed she had been fatally wounded, according to a complaint.

For the next two years she was in a coma.

Miraculously, she started to regain some consciousness last month and referred to her brother as the one who assaulted her.

When asked why Daniel assaulted her, Wanda said he was “mean,” according to a complaint in the case.

During his court appearance last Friday, Palmer became belligerent and deputies had to drag him out of the courtroom.

Palmer has long denied any involvement in the beating of his sister. Investigators said the brother was always a VIP and a witness stated that he “saw Daniel Palmer in the front entrance of his Wanda trailer in the middle of the night the night she was assaulted,” according to the complaint.
